Review of Eye Day Case written by a patient
8th November 2019

kind and helpful staff giving good patient care and an excellent discharge briefing on how to take the medication, what to do and what happens next. The only thing you could improve from my experience on the day is to give better training on hoists, what slings to use and where to find them.

Review of D5 written by a patient

On the whole my stay was very enjoyable,(if you can say that about being in hospital!) The ward staff from the doctors to the cleaners were polite, caring, cheerful and always ready to help. I had a total knee replacement, my first ever non day visit, and was kept informed of what was happening, or about to happen, to me throughout. The food was far better than I expected. The discharge routine however, was rather haphazard and disjointed with a lot of waiting around for someone to make a decision. Also no-one on the ward seemed to be aware that my consultant did not work at QA on Mondays - and hadn't done for years! There was a further problem with the heating in my section of the ward. One evening it suddenly rose dramatically causing problems for the patients and the on duty nursing staff. This however was dealt with promptly but it was something the ward staff shouldn't have to experience. I was later told by another nursing team member that the heating was rubbish!! Overall I think you are doing a fantastic job especially when you take into account the staff and funding shortages.

My ratings speak for themselves. The care given by Ms S Meredith and support staff made you feel like you were treated as an individual and not a number - very professional and very helpful/friendly. I felt I was in safe hands.

Review of Diabetic Clinic written by a family member
4th November 2019

My husband saw Tracey Curtis, one of Dr. Iain Cranson's Specialist Nurses. She was absolutely splendid, she explained lots of things to both of us and slightly changed some of the Insulin Doses and told us why and what this should achieve. Most importantly she has said to wait for ten days, whilst making a note of BGL and my husband's general health. After ten days I will be back in contact with Tracey and we will discuss how we move forward. I was well pleased wit the Diabetes Reception Staff and with Jan, ? Who weighs each patient, they are a really nice Department and are eager to help over any questions which people have.

Review of Fracture Liaison Service written by a family member
30th October 2019

I have ulcerative colitis (not shown on list above). Following fractures of my femurs, I was referred to the bone specialists and have been cared for very well through the whole process. I have great respect for the QA hospital and its staff. And Miss Lewis has done all three operations for me. The follow up care has been first class.

Review of Eye Day Case written by a carer
25th October 2019

I am completing this on behalf one of my patients. I am a community RNLD (Registered Learning Disability Nurse) and my patient received excellent care as a day case for cataracts surgery. I also found the department were extremely helpful in arranging a sooner appointment for my patient as his condition deteriorated, helped set up reasonable adjustments for him such as a side room and a nurse helped co-ordinate other health checks whilst he was under general anaesthetic due to having such good links with other departments in the hospital. Although I was unable to be with him on the day, care staff from his home who were with him on the day, reported to me that the anaesthetist conversed with him in Makaton which is his main source of communication so would have helped him feel safe and less anxious. Thank you so much for delivering such excellent care, you are all a credit to the NHS.

Review of B7 written by a patient
23rd October 2019

Lack of staff meant IOL was started and then delayed several times, we didn’t see a midwife for 11 hours once, with no explanation. During this time no one checked us or our babies. Once ready to have my waters broken I waited 30 hours to be moved to labour ward for this to happen, by which time baby had moved position and the process became I more difficult and resulted in a longer labour. Whilst i understand women in labour obviously take priority we were left feeling very much like we didn’t matter. The room i was given in the labour ward had blood stains around the toilet which had not been cleaned properly, these were then cleaned up by the midwife. On a positive note, Claire Gamblin, the midwife who looked after me both in the induction room and labour ward was INCREDIBLE. She listened, understood and took every care to ensure I had the delivery I wanted. I could not be more greatful of the care I received from her and for the experience she allowed me to have. I have previously suffered 3x 3rd degree tears in labour and Claire’s care meant that this didn’t happen again. I cannot speak highly enough of her.
